Ginger Lynn has been a porn star since the days when schoolgirls argued over which member of Duran Duran was the hottest (Roger, in this writer's opinion) and housewives swooned over "Magnum P.I." Since the '80s are the biggest nostalgia craze going, it's only fitting that a legend from those days would grace us with her presence again. For a while Ginger has been hinting at a comeback with occasional small roles, but she couldn't have chosen a better vehicle to make it big (like Wham!) again than "Ginger Loves Girls" from Sweetheart Video and Mile High Media. As time has passed, maturity has somewhat altered Ginger's appearance, but she still has the magic.
This isn't your average porn film, as befits a non-average porn star. Ginger and female-friendly director Nica Noelle have a good camaraderie, which is important because this is, in part, a quasi-documentary of Ginger's history of her sex life. She talks about a past relationship with another woman named Ginger that ended because it was too stifling. Then our Ginger tells an anecdote of taking the virginity of a sweet production assistant on a mainstream movie she did in the late '80s. This leads into Ginger's first scene with the lady Nica introduces as one of the best girl-girl performers ever, Sweetheart contract girl Elexis Monroe.
Elexis comes home in a great mood and is disappointed to see Ginger still feeling low after a breakup. Ginger sarcastically apologizes for taking over 24 hours to recover and Elexis says it's just that she hates seeing Ginger sad. Elexis reluctantly tells Ginger her good news about asking out a girl she likes and Ginger puts on a fake smile using a banana from the table. If there's anything Ginger needs, Elexis says, she'll be in her room. Ginger decides what she needs is sexual healing with a woman even though she's only been with guys, but Elexis explains that this is just a reaction to a breakup and that real lesbians would steer clear of a girl on the rebound. Ginger can't be a lesbian, Elexis reasons, because she's not pinging Elexis's gaydar. Of course, Ginger has little trouble convincing Elexis to be her teacher (not that she needs one – anyone who's seen Ginger in her heyday knows that she was always one of the best at girl-on-girl – but she's playing a character). Once Elexis lets her guard down, passionate kissing leads to Ginger hungrily devouring Elexis's breasts. It's clear that Ginger has roused some passion in Elexis as well, and they kiss and fondle each other for a while. Elexis licks Ginger's knee and caresses her while Ginger worships Elexis's feet. They make their way to a panting, moaning oral session and some grinding. To the impatient they might be taking too long, but these two know how to build a fire into a raging inferno. These performers, as you can clearly see, are into it and not putting on a show. It's a 40-minute scene, which is on the long side but not unusual for a Nica Noelle production, given her commitment to naturalistic sex and real orgasms.
Later, Ginger pairs up with 90s porn star and fellow AVN Hall of Famer Stephanie Swift (who was, we're sad to report, diagnosed with breast cancer around the time this film was released). It's their first time together, so you won't want to miss this epic pairing. Ginger is a jealous girlfriend who wants Stephanie to leave after seeing her hugging and talking to an ex at a party. Stephanie is tired of Ginger's paranoia and agrees it's for the best that they end it. Suddenly Ginger has a change of heart and has to convince Stephanie to stay. "Don't do it if you don't mean it," Stephanie tells her as they kiss. Even though Ginger's voice says she's still mad at Stephanie, her body tells a different story. They kiss and fuck and make up in one of the movie's hottest scenes, which includes not just the expected breast play and pussy eating, but also a bit of rimming for variety.
In other scenes, Ginger is paired with hot young starlet Mia Presley and, most thrillingly, introduces Nica Noelle to her first girl/girl anal scene using a frozen cucumber. Who can blame Nica for doing a rare turn in front of the camera when her partner is Ginger Lynn? As is often the case, Ginger's orgasms in this film are fun to watch – she has whole-body spasms of ecstasy, waving her hands frantically and almost pushing off her partner because she gets so sensitive.
"Ginger Loves Girls" is a rarity in that the interview clips are as interesting as the sex scenes. When Ginger dishes about her first porn experiences, it's fascinating. She didn't consider herself one of "those" people who does porn, but met a gorgeous, classy porn star at the agency who compared performing to seeing someone across the room at a party and knowing you're going to fuck them. Ginger talks about how she negotiated her first full-length film but decided to do a couple of loops for practice. Her first loop was done with Ron Jeremy and she had to wear "cocksucker red" lipstick that she smeared all over her face as she tried to lick her lips sexily. Although she had an orgasm with Ron, Ginger wasn't thrilled about doing her first loop with him because he was, even then, not exactly the sexiest man alive. Ginger says that she truly had her first "guy across the room" moment with her partner for the second loop, Tom Byron (endearingly, she calls him "Tommy"). Once she got to the set of her first film, Ginger quite hilariously found dialogue more difficult than sex. She bares part of herself that you'd never expect to see naked in a porn flick – her soul – when she talks about the five years she spent in a relationship with Charlie Sheen. We also find out that even porn stars would rather be rock stars when Ginger talks about being inspired to try singing – and not doing a good enough job – because of Cheap Trick, whom she first knew as a local band (she babysat Robin Zander's little sister). As Ginger talks, we can see that she really is the accessible, sex-loving girl we always imagined her to be from watching her body of work.
For Ginger Lynn fans, this is a must-see. If you don't already love her, she's going to make you love her in the process of this film. It's an instant classic and a wonderful welcome back for a porn legend.
